Salt air near the coast is hard on battery terminals, and short trips around town don't always give the alternator time to recharge a battery fully. Put those together and batteries in Encinitas can fade sooner than drivers expect. Still, a car that won't start isn't always a battery problem.

We test the battery, the alternator, the starter, and the cables before replacing anything. If the battery is the weak link, we install the right type for your car, including AGM batteries for cars with start-stop.

Battery and starting problem signs

  • Engine cranks slowly → a weak battery, a corroded terminal, or a starter dragging.
  • Rapid clicking when you turn the key → not enough power reaching the starter.
  • Battery or charging light while driving → the alternator isn't keeping up.
  • Headlights dim at idle → low alternator output or a slipping belt.
  • Flat battery after a few days parked → something is drawing power with the car off.
  • Green or white buildup on the terminals → corrosion that blocks current.

How battery and starting service works here

  1. Inspect

We test the battery's health, check alternator output and the belt, measure starter draw, and look over the cables.

  2. Explain and estimate

You see the test results and get a written estimate.

  3. You approve

    You decide what gets replaced.

  4. Repair

We install the correct battery, or repair the alternator, starter, or cables. When the car requires it, we register the new battery with the scan tool.

  5. Road test

We confirm a strong start and normal charging.

Nothing is repaired without your OK.

If we find a battery drain, we track down its source and estimate that separately.

Deeper electrical issue? See our electrical repair page. Due for smog soon after a battery change? The engine's self-tests reset, so tell us and we'll explain what to expect. See our STAR smog check page.

Frequently asked questions

Battery or alternator: how can I tell?

If the car runs after a jump but dies again soon, or the battery light comes on while driving, suspect the alternator. If it stays running after a jump, the battery is the likelier culprit. We test both.

What if my car won't start at home?

Call us. If it can't be jump-started or driven, we'll arrange the nearest tow truck to bring it here. Towing is billed by the tow company.

Does my car need an AGM battery?

Many cars with start-stop or heavy electrical loads are built for AGM. We install the type your car calls for.

Why do my terminals keep corroding?

Coastal air and small acid vapors from the battery cause it. Cleaning the terminals and checking the battery's condition helps.

Can I bring my own battery?

We can install a battery you supply. Customer-supplied parts carry no warranty, parts or labor.

How can I pay?

Cash, major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay are all welcome here. Ask about current coupons.
