Smog Retest in Encinitas, CA
Our $30 smog retest is for a car that failed a paid inspection at our STAR-certified Encinitas Blvd station: one discounted retest for the same vehicle within 30 days. You pay $21.75 for the retest, plus the $8.25 state certificate if the car passes. Come back once the repair is done; book online or call (760) 753-1000.

$30 smog retest. One discounted retest for the same vehicle at the same station within 30 calendar days of the original paid, failed inspection. The retest is $21.75; if the vehicle passes, the $8.25 state certificate brings the total to $30. If it fails again, the retest is $21.75. A completed inspection that fails because readiness monitors are not ready counts as the retest. An inspection we abort costs nothing and does not use the retest; the 30-day window still applies. Additional retests and returns after 30 days are charged at posted regular prices. Repairs are not included.
Come back after the repair is done and the car has been driven enough for its self-tests to finish. And if our technicians handled the repair, the fee from the first smog check was already credited toward that bill.

What to bring
Three things make a retest go smoothly:
- The car itself, repaired.
- The vehicle inspection report from the test it failed.
- Your DMV renewal notice or the documents DMV sent you. The notice says whether a STAR station is required. We are STAR certified, so we can retest either way.
If the repair was done at another shop, the invoice helps too.
What happens at the retest
We look up the earlier result, then write up an estimate for the retest that you approve before we begin. If we see that the car's readiness monitors haven't finished (common right after a battery swap or cleared codes), we'll say so before testing. Give it a week or two of everyday driving and they usually catch up.
When the car is ready, we run the inspection required for its model year and hand you a new vehicle inspection report.
When the retest still doesn't pass
A second failure usually means there was more than one problem. We sit down with the new report, then our repair side can track down what's left. You get a written estimate and nothing is touched until you say yes. If your car fails and we do the repair here, the smog check fee is credited toward the repair.
Before approving a major emissions repair, look at your owner's manual: some emissions repairs may be covered by your manufacturer's warranty.

Frequently asked questions
What does a smog retest cost here?
The retest costs $21.75, plus the $8.25 state certificate only if the car passes, for a total of $30. It covers one retest of the same vehicle within 30 days of a paid, failed inspection at our station, and a second failure is $21.75. See the full terms above. First-test pricing is on our coupon page.
The first test was somewhere else. Can you do the retest?
We can test it, at our regular posted price: the $30 smog retest is only for cars that failed a paid inspection at our station. Bring the vehicle inspection report from that station and the repair invoice. Questions first? Call (760) 753-1000.
Does my notice require a STAR station for the retest?
Your DMV renewal notice says whether it does. We are STAR certified, so it doesn't matter for testing here.
How long should I drive after the repair before retesting?
If the battery was disconnected or codes were cleared, drive normally for a week or two so the readiness monitors can reset.
Do I lose the first smog check fee if you fix the car?
No. If your car fails and we do the repair here, the smog check fee is credited toward the repair.
