Encinitas STAR Smog & Auto Repair Terms of Service

California's Automotive Repair Act, enforced by the Bureau of Automotive Repair, requires that you receive a written estimate and give your authorization before any work is done or any charge is made. We follow that rule on every visit:

• Repairs: before we start, you get a written estimate showing parts and labor. No work is done until you approve it.
• Additional work needs your approval. If we find something else, or the job will cost more than the estimate you approved, we stop and contact you. We do not go further without your approval, and we record it as California rules require.
• If you decline the work, you only pay for what you authorized (for example, a diagnosis you approved).
• Smog inspections: before the inspection starts, you get a written estimate showing the inspection price and the state certificate fee. The inspection starts only after you approve it.

• State certificate fee. When a smog certificate is issued for your vehicle, the $8.25 State of California certificate fee applies. It is a state fee and is not refundable once the certificate is issued.
• Inspection fee. The inspection fee is not refundable once the inspection has been performed, whether the vehicle passes or fails.
• No result is promised. The result depends on the vehicle. No station can guarantee a pass.
• Retests ($30 smog retest). One discounted retest for the same vehicle at the same station within 30 calendar days of the original paid, failed inspection. The retest is $21.75; if the vehicle passes, the $8.25 state certificate brings the total to $30. If it fails again, the retest is $21.75. A completed inspection that fails because readiness monitors are not ready counts as the retest. An inspection we abort costs nothing and does not use the retest; the 30-day window still applies. Additional retests and returns after 30 days are charged at posted regular prices. Repairs are not included. If your car fails and we do the repair here, the smog check fee is credited toward the repair.
• When a vehicle passes, the certificate is recorded electronically with the state. We do not provide DMV registration services.

When you book online with your mobile number, give us your mobile number for a visit, or text us first, you agree to receive text messages from Encinitas STAR Smog & Auto Repair about your booking or visit (confirmations, reminders and changes) and replies to your messages. We do not send marketing texts unless you have separately agreed to receive them.
