Signs of an exhaust problem
- Exhaust suddenly louder
- A hole or crack in the muffler or a pipe.
- Rattle from under the car
- A loose heat shield or a broken hanger or clamp.

Inspect
We raise the car and inspect the full system from the manifold back: pipes, gaskets, flex joints, muffler, hangers, heat shields and sensors. With the engine running, we can usually find leaks by sound and by feel.
Explain and estimate
We show you the problem, whether it's a broken hanger or a rusted-through section, and give you a written estimate.

Nothing is repaired without your OK.
Repair
We repair or replace the approved sections, hangers and gaskets.
Road test
We check for leaks with the engine running, confirm nothing contacts the body or chassis, and drive the car to make sure the noise is gone.
Why exhaust leaks are worth fixing
Beyond noise, an exhaust leak can let fumes into the cabin, and a leak ahead of an oxygen sensor can throw off the readings the engine computer uses to manage fuel. That can set a check engine light and affect how the car runs. The emissions parts of the exhaust system are also part of a smog inspection.

Frequently asked questions
Is an exhaust leak dangerous?
It can be. Exhaust contains carbon monoxide, and a leak can let it into the cabin. If you smell exhaust inside the car, have it checked promptly.
Can an exhaust leak affect my smog check?
Yes. Leaks can affect oxygen sensor readings and the engine computer, and the emissions parts of the exhaust system are part of the smog inspection. We can repair and test here.
What's the rattle under my car?
Often a loose heat shield or a broken hanger or clamp. Those are usually smaller repairs, and we'll show you what we find.
Do you replace mufflers?
Yes. Muffler, pipe, hanger and gasket repair and replacement are part of our exhaust work.
Why is my car louder after hitting a bump?
A hit can crack a pipe, separate a joint, or break a hanger. We'll inspect it on the lift.
