Bring the car and, if you have it, the DMV renewal notice. It tells you whether a smog check is required and whether it has to be at a STAR station.

Yes. Because we're STAR certified, we can test vehicles whose DMV renewal notice calls for a STAR station, and any driver can choose us.

You get a vehicle inspection report with the results and whether the car passed or failed, plus any open safety recalls on the car.

We walk you through the report. We're a test-and-repair station, so our technicians can diagnose the cause and give you a written estimate, and you decide whether we do the work. Nothing is repaired without your OK. If your car fails and we do the repair here, the smog check fee is credited toward the repair.

$30 smog retest. One discounted retest for the same vehicle at the same station within 30 calendar days of the original paid, failed inspection. The retest is $21.75; if the vehicle passes, the $8.25 state certificate brings the total to $30. If it fails again, the retest is $21.75. A completed inspection that fails because readiness monitors are not ready counts as the retest. An inspection we abort costs nothing and does not use the retest; the 30-day window still applies. Additional retests and returns after 30 days are charged at posted regular prices. Repairs are not included.

Before bringing in a diesel, a 1999 or older vehicle, or anything that isn't a gas or hybrid car, truck, SUV or van, call (760) 753-1000 so we can confirm.

Yes, in writing and before any work. If we find something else partway through, we pause, call you and wait for your OK.

Yes. Every repair page carries its own coupon, and the smog coupon lives at https://encinitasstarsmog.com/coupon. It's one coupon per visit, not combined with other offers. Bring it up when we write your estimate; walk-in and phone customers get it too.

At the counter, once the work is finished. Cash, major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay all work.

Repairs done with our parts come with a 12-month / 12,000-mile warranty on parts and labor. If you supply your own part, there's no warranty on that part or its labor.
